💖 Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • Easy: No weird ingredients or difficult steps - simple, basic ingredients and instructions perfect for anyone to understand.
    • Quick: Only 35 minutes from start to finish - great for busy weeknights or holidays!
    • Kid Friendly: Most kids love corn, and this recipe is no exception. They will love the cheesy, creamy goodness!

    🥘 Ingredients

    What You'll Need:

    Ingredient Notes:

    • Corn: Use fresh or frozen. No need to thaw frozen corn. Canned corn is not recommended, as it's already cooked and won't have the same fresh flavor.
    • Butter: Use real butter, not margarine. The flavor is much better.
    • Garlic: Use fresh or frozen or minced jarred. I buy large bags of pre-peeled garlic and put them in the freezer to keep from spoiling. Fresh is always the most flavorful, but many times I like to cut corners to save time.
    • Basil: Don't leave this herb out if possible, as it really makes this dish unique and so flavorful! If you have fresh, you can use about ¼ cup finely minced.

(See recipe card below for ingredient quantities and full recipe instructions)

    🔪 Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Start by melting the butter on medium heat, then add the garlic, parsley, and basil and cook until it’s all bubbly. This takes about 5 minutes.

Step 2: Next, you will add the corn, salt, pepper, and paprika and stir. Cook this mixture on medium heat covered for about 10 minutes. This will partially cook the corn.

Step 3: You will then add the broth and cover for another 10 minutes. This finishes the corn cooking process.

Step 4: Turn the heat down to low. Break up the cream cheese into pieces and add to the corn along with the parmesan and mix together. Cover and cook on low heat until cheese is all melty, uncovering to stir a couple times. Serve right away.

    💭 Expert Cooking Tips

    • Let cream cheese soften on the counter while assembling other ingredients. Break it up when adding to the corn mixture - this will cause it to melt more quickly.
    • Don't overcook garlic. It should be just starting to brown when adding corn to the pan.
    • Serve right away while hot. Reheat covered on low if needed.

    🧐 Recipe FAQs

What is the difference between corn and cream style corn?

Cream style corn is plain corn with ingredients added to make it creamy. Mine uses cream cheese to create the creamy texture. This also gives it a nice cheesy flavor (along with the parmesan).

What are the ingredients for cream style corn?

My recipe uses fresh or frozen corn, cream cheese, garlic, dry basil and parsley, butter, chicken or beef broth, and parmesan cheese.

Is Sweet Corn and creamed corn the same thing?

Sweet corn is the name given to regular corn that is a super sweet variety. Sweet corn by itself doesn't have anything added to it. Creamed corn is regular corn with ingredients added to make it creamy.

    What thickens creamed corn?

I use cream cheese to thicken my creamed corn, but some use a slurry of flour and milk to create the creaminess. I love the rich flavor the cream cheese gives to my recipe.

How do you thicken creamed corn without cornstarch?

I like to thicken my corn with cream cheese. Some others use flour to thicken. You could also use arrowroot powder. However, I do love how the cream cheese makes this dish so flavorful.

Is it better with beef or chicken broth?

Georgann - I used chicken broth, which I had handy, but I suspect that beef broth would be just as good (or maybe even better ...) Beef broth tends to add even more flavor than chicken broth. Either way, it's a fabulous recipe. Let me know what you think!

This version of creamed corn looks fantastic! I agree about the sugar! No need because good sweetcorn is sweet enough already.
